| I think one of my favorite things about this skit is that it shows that humor can be free of sex, swears, and toilet humor and still be funny. I mean, I consider it kind of, as much as any of our skits can be, a family skit. Sure,
it's got retching sounds...but what's really funny here is the intricicies of the dialogue. This skit I wrote back in...well, geez, I guess it must have been the spring of 2000. It was inspired by a good friend of mine (and a T. Bob Tubb photographer), Wilkh Brentt. We were at the movies and we were talking about that horrible, horrible moment when, yes, a popcorn kernel gets stuck in your throat -- and don't tell me it hasn't happened to you, because yes it has! -- but it's definitely not the end of the world when this happens, but it's definitely uncomfortable...so Wilkh said that there should be some product that took care of that. And he called it, appropriately enought, a "throat de-kernelizer." And I thought that was just a hilarious concept. This is one of our earlier skits. When Walter and I started T. Bob Tubb, our inclination was to put well-known songs in back of all our skits. Well, this was actually the first skit we did where we made our own music. OK, so it's not much, but it was fun to do. Walter hit the drums, and I played bass. It was a much-hyped Lurch reunion. |
