Mopitus Reflects
on Elegance to Go
I have a hard time recalling the first skit I ever did all on my own, but I think this is it. You can especially tell by the bad production quality (yay, tape hiss!). This skit is great, though, because there's so much more than meets the eye. You know, on the surface, there's just this inherent funniness in the kinds of things that are being served at this restaurant, but there are a lot of hidden gems in here. I won't talk about it, though, because Walter doesn't like it when I point out my own jokes. Even if I do still laugh at them.

The background noises for this skit, what sounds like waves lapping against the shore, is actually taken from a CD called Wilderness Thunderstorm. And if I may take a step aside for a side note here, this CD was a common practical joke that my friend Wilkh Brentt liked to play in college. He'd put the CD in someone's player, and very slowly would turn up the volume through a remote control. Other people in the room would start to notice that it was raining outside. Gradually, however, it began to sound like there was a serious thunderstorm inside the room and people would start freaking out! Maybe you had to be there. We had some good times with that, though.

One thing that I'm always afraid that people don't notice is why there's some guy who says "ow!" right after the line "a vase of roses and several candles." Well, that's supposed to be the drive-thru attendant! Now, just indulge me here, and picture a guy wearing -- as clothes! -- a vase of roses and candles. Sound comfy? I didn't think so.
