| This was a skit I did on a whim with my good friend Sekshun who was in town visiting...I had written this one a long time ago, back in 2000, I think. It was actually written as a news story, for a newspaper I used to write
called The Brown Baby Gerald. I'll try to get those papers online sometime, if not only for a few diehard Gerald fans who have so requested. Anyhoo, Sekshun was over and we made the news story into a skit, and made some strategic changes to make it flow better and move faster.
L. Thomas Hernell is a actually a name from our past, I think he went to high school with me and Sekshun. But it's one of those names that always sticks with you, even if you can't remember who the person is, and when Sekshun brought his name up, we had laughing fits for a few minutes, then promptly inserted it in DeVry Dreams. Alfred Siha is another name that Sekshun gave me...I guess it's someone he went to college with. I love sprinkling those "true-to-life" names in there...I just picture someone like L. Hernell randomly downloading one of our skits and getting all excited because his name is on the internet. Does everyone know what DeVry even is? I haven't even seen commercials for it in like five years. I dunno. It was a household name when I was growing up, but these days I'm not so sure. So I worry a little bit that listeners might not pick up on the fact that we're talking about a correspondence college here...I mean, I think we made it as clear as possible. In retrospect, I would have liked to avoid using the name "DeVry," since it actually exists and is most likely copyrighted. But I'm not going to go redo it now. It's already past my bedtime. |
