Mopitus Reflects
on Beerdad
Hey, all!! Prepared to be Mopitized!! Heh, heh. I've always wanted to say that. But, enough of what I want to say; I also want to say that I like Beerdad...and I know that's a very blanket statement, and also probably doesn't convey my true feelings on Beerdad, because it is one of those skits that honestly I can see that a lot of people wouldn't get it. When you first meet the three people in the skit, you really have no idea of what's going on, and who these people are. And then as you get deeper and deeper into the skit, you start to realize that, hey, these guys are just a bunch of assholes that bumped into each other and just won't let it rest. And then, things pick up...and things get weirder and weirder, "Real Mom" comes into it or whatever, and then, even though you're kind of coming to the conclusion that there's more here in this relationship than meets the eye, it's not until the very last...well, the last two lines, and where Vic Arious says "Thanks, Dad..." It pretty much comes out of nowhere!! And that's what's so great about it.

I also like how there's a lot of swearing, but it's all bleeped out. Because, believe it or not, that takes a lot of effort, to bleep things out, and I know Mr. Stemple has worked hard to do that, since it allows us to play the skit on the radio without pissing off the FCC. But I think that since there are so many swears, the fact that they're bleeped out actually makes you more aware that there's so much swearing in there to begin with, which I find a tad counterintuitive. The line "That sh!t's ill!" is actually a nod to one of my...ahem...more herbally-infused housemates in college. But don't get me wrong -- the line only brings back bad memories. But I'm glad Mopitus made that reference.

I don't think Walter likes this skit as much as I do, but that may just be his subjectivity. There are some small hidden gems sprinkled throughout the skit, but what I really come away with is how bizarre the transition between the beginning and end is.
